Sunday Jazz Cafe

Teaming up with JazzLeeds means Sunday afternoons at Inkwell are a great way to wind down your weekend. With top jazz musicians performing live in our art space, we serve great coffees and tasty simple meals during the sessions. Seven jazz is an independent voluntary music provider based in Chapel Allerton run by volunteers and music lovers.

Kalpadruma is a jazz quintet led by Asha Parkinson. It was recently formed to explore connections between contemporary, jazz, Indian, Arabic, Turkish and Flamenco music. The Kalpadruma* Suite is a six-movement work bringing together all these influences. Alison Rayner’s ARQ

Bassist Alison Rayner’s band ARQ play ‘songs without words’ and are known for their vibrant, communicative performances. Their combination of richly nuanced compositions with folk-infused grooves, skilful musicianship and a love of improvisation, creates a compelling and coherent whole.

Ingi Bjarni Trio

Sun 3rd Nov at Inkwell

Ingi Bjarni Trio brings together three active musicians from Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The members of the trio are: Ingi Bjarni Skúlason from Iceland on piano, Bárður Reinert Poulsen (The Fjords, Espen Berg Trio) from the Faroe Islands on bass and Magnús Trygvason Eliassen (ADHD, amiina) from Iceland on drums. The trio has played at festivals like Young Nordic Jazz Comets, VetrarJazz, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Reykjavík Jazz Festival, and more.

Helen Pillinger’s Ysbryd

Ysbryd is an exciting new project from saxophonist Helen Pillinger. Helen has gone back to her Welsh roots (her band contains a harp, of course…) to explore the links between jazz and folksong and the use of improvisation in both styles. Music to please both your mind and soul. .The concert forms part of our Women in Jazz autumn season

Helen is a Manchester-based saxophonist specialising in tenor and alto. Born into a musical family, Helen did not take up music until her early twenties. After establishing herself as a player, she soon secured places studying at Leeds College of Music and then Salford University. Helen has played with bands such as the Hilary Step Saxophone Quartet, M6, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and the piano and saxophone duo Counterpoint. Helen also works as an instrumental teacher in schools across Greater Manchester. More recently Helen has been studying Dalcroze at the RNCM.

Inkwell Kim Macari
