Chapel Allerton Arts Festival

Inkwell at the Chapel Allerton Arts Trail

The Art Trail this year was the first of it’s kind and formed a major part of the Chapel Allerton Festival in 2013. Several local businesses signed up to take part in the trail and after speaking to the business owners there was a definite overriding excitement about the opening night. Each business taking part displayed works by selected local artists from in and around Leeds. The opening on the 27th August was accompanied by entertainers and gnomes (yes gnomes!) who lined the streets and added to the fun festival feel.

Art Trail Opening Night

This year, Inkwell and the Chapel Allerton Festival have brought us a new feature to the annual festivities. The Art Trail has been an exciting collaboration with the festival organisers, Inkwell volunteers and staff.

There will be 40 artists exhibiting work in 16 venues in and around Chapel Allerton and we are very proud that many of the exhibitors are Inkwell Artists including our students, volunteers and tutors. Details of all the artists exhibiting can be found on the festival website here

The opening night will take place on Tuesday 27th August when the Trail officially opens. The evening will be a joyous celebration, including events happening at each venue plus musicians and entertainers on the streets. Arts and Minds with the help of local children and residents painted 150 gnomes at Inkwell last weekend that will also add to the quirky festival vibe.

Inkwell will be hosting our own celebration for artists exhibiting in our gallery. Drinks and wine will be served and the evening is expected to go onto at least 9pm. We hope on your way around the trail you will pop in and see us, enjoy the work on show and be part of what will be the first ever Arts trail in the festival’s history.

Call for Artists

This year the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival, in collaboration with Inkwell, are organising an Art Trail during the 2013 Festival.

Local artists’ work will be displayed in public venues around Chapel Allerton.

We are putting out a call for artists to apply for the Art Trail and the deadline for applications is Friday 28 June.

The curatorial team from Inkwell will work with venues to select work. We are seeking 2D work and due to the diverse nature of the venues you can submit large or small works including works on paper, canvas, works mounted on foam board or framed works.

We will be producing publicity for the event that will include a map and details of the artists and venues.

The launch night will coincide with a number of other Festival events around Chapel Allerton so it is likely to be a really buzzing evening of activity.

If you would like to get involved please visit www.chapelallerton.org.uk for more details.

Chapel Allerton Festival Exhibition

The sun shone down at the festival today and crowds came in their hundreds to experience what Chapel Allerton had to offer, from delicious food to local real ale, live music, street entertainers and arts and crafts. Inkwell is in the heart of LS7, nestled between the vibrant communities of Chapeltown and Chapel Allerton. It’s been a week of festivities that started last weeknd with the vibrant and colourful Leeds Carnival taking place.

Colourful Craft Stalls at the Chapel Allerton Arts festival 2012

Inkwell this week has been a hive of activity when the Arts Festival came along to run art and craft workshops in our art space in the lead up to the main event happening this weekend. The children who came painted and created their magnificent woodland scenes which was the theme of this years event. The woodland decorations look amazing lining the streets and acted as a backdrop to the numerous street acts and entertainment that were taking place.

Today, we took our ‘Nature of it’ exhibition to the Arts festival and we owe a big thanks to Ally and Keith for help with transporting our show over and back again. Saturday at 11am the doors to the Methodist Church opened to the viewing public. We estimated over 400 visitors came to see the show today which is a fantastic turn out a great publicity for us and our service. Thanks to everyone who helped set up the show and for coming over and having a look at the diverse and beautiful art we make at Inkwell.
