Jazz on Saturdays

In collaboration with local jazz musicians and Seven Jazz we bring you monthly live Jazz on Saturday lunchtimes, playing foot tapping well known jazz tunes in our main gallery space. Our Saturday Cafe serves delicious homemade lunches until 3pm and afternoon tea and homemade cakes until 4pm.

Our Inkwell diva for May is vocalist Anne Cleveland. Performing familiar-and-not-so-familiar songs from Great American Songbook as well as original compositions by Anne.

Sunday Jazz Cafe

In partnership with Seven Jazz

teaming up with Seven Jazz means Sunday afternoons at Inkwell are a great way to wind down your weekend. With top jazz musicians performing live in our art space, we serve great coffees and tasty simple meals during the sessions. Seven jazz is an independent voluntary music provider based in Chapel Allerton run by volunteers and music lovers.

Various Sundays
£7/£5 concessions, under sixteen’s free.
The doors open at 1pm, music starts 1.30-4pm.

Skwid Ink: Leftfield jazz crew Skwid Ink, one of the many impressive bands coming out of the College of Music. Led by pianist George MacDonald 

Joe Whettam quartet : Joe Whettam guitar, Joel Robinson piano, Fraser Kerslake bass, Pete Udal drums.

The Wardrobe Quintet: a Norwegian band based at Leeds College of Music with Casper Hatlestad, guitar, Ola Lauvås, trumpet  Benjamin Rekstad, piano, Anders Hjemmen bass and Jostein Braaten drums. This Jazztronica group takes influences from a wide range of genres – the poetry of Scandinavian nature electronic effects, and the underground music of Leeds

Nel Begley

Ella Fitzgerald was the greatest vocalist the jazz world has ever heard. Her extraordinary diction, timing, sense of swing and all round joie de vivre meant that her versions of hundreds of great songs were the definitive ones. Rising star vocalist Nel Begley will focus on the songs performed on the Ella and guitarist Joe Pass


Danny Barley Quintet

Danny Barley – Trombone, compositions, arrangements Eliot Richards – Tenor Saxophone Tom Sharp – Trumpet  Chris Bland – Piano, Sam Quintana – Double Bass Jordan Dinsdale – Drums 

Danny Barley is a freelance trombonist and Leeds College of Music alumnus from Hull. He started learning the trombone at the age of eight and has since been fortunate enough to work alongside many popular artists in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues and concert halls including Symphony Hall in Birmingham and The Cavern in Liverpool. He is currently a member of the prestigious National Youth Jazz orchestra. He will be performing a suite specially composed for this concert

The Seven Jazz Workshop and Seven Jazz Voices Choir led by Nicki Allen this time as Tessa Smith is on maternity leave –  will be performing  and the Seven Jazz trio will be there to support you. £7/5 concessions (concessions including performers)

John Settle’s Vibe-ology

John Settle on vibes, Al Morrison on guitar, Bob Birch on Hammond organ and Joe England on drums.

Jazz, blues, funk and Latin paying homage to  Milt Jackson, Wes Montgomery, John Patton, Bobby Hutcherson, Jimmy Smith, George Benson. A showcase for this rarely heard group instrumentation.

We’ll be having more of our informal summer music slots again this summer featuring Seven Jazz’s friends and supporters’ bands in July/ August this year,. The first set will be the band, then followed by a jam session. Do come and join in or just watch the fun!
