Jazz Diva Band with Maria Vali

Inkwell work closely with established Leeds based jazz organisation Jazz Leeds who bring live music to our saturday cafe once a month. Jazz Divas features upcoming and established jazz singers from across the region, playing foot tapping well known jazz tunes in our main gallery space. Our Saturday Cafe serves delicious homemade lunches until 3pm with full espresso bar service and homemade cakes until 4pm.

teaming up with JazzLeeds means Sunday afternoons at Inkwell are a great way to wind down your weekend. With top jazz musicians performing live in our art space, we serve great coffees and tasty simple meals during the sessions. Seven jazz is an independent voluntary music provider based in Chapel Allerton run by volunteers and music lovers.

£9/£7 concessions, under sixteen’s free.
The doors open at 1pm, music starts 1.30-4pm.

Emma Fisk and Jim Birkett

Bringing together their shared knowledge of early jazz styles and improvisation, Emma Fisk and James Birkett present an entertaining, virtuosic and informative programme of music associated with and inspired by the first great jazz violin and guitar partnership of Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang.

Matt Aplin Quartet

Matt Aplin is a young pianist, composer and arranger from Leeds. He has written and arranged for a variety of ensembles, including solo piano, string quartet, and jazz groups of various sizes.

David Ferris piano Nick Jurd on bass, Euan Palmer on drums, Hugh Pascall on trumpet, Richard Foote on trombone, and Vittorio Mura and Chris Young on woodwinds

Maria Vali is a member of the critically acclaimed Estonian Voices and is a busy performer in Estonia.  David Ferris is now resident in Birmingham, where he graduated from the Jazz Degree at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015. Their music will be inspired by the work by various British poets.

Asaxual was formed in 2016 with a view to paying tribute to some of the most magnificent two-brass front lines of the recent past, such as the great JJ Johnson & Kai Winding , and heavyweights like Shew and Fontana.

 

Tonejuice with Swiss saxman Alain Brenzikofer

Swiss saxman Alain Brenzikofer formed Tonejuice as an international band project consisting of six musicians from Switzerland and England including our own Will Powell on guitar. Deep ballads, bouncing rhythms, odd meters and modal harmony offer a tasty juice for brain, body and soul.

Andy Schofield sax with the Jamil Sheriff trio

Andy is a saxophonist/composer/arranger from Manchester, now living in Prague. He has been active on the UK jazz scene for many years and was a long-time member of the Creative Jazz Orchestra, working alongside such international artists as Kenny Wheeler, Bill Frisell, Peter Erskine, John Taylor, Anthony Braxton, Mike Gibbs and Vince Mendoza.

Jazz Voices Choir – at Inkwell Autumn 2017

Monday Evenings at Inkwell

The Autumn Jazz Voices Choir at Inkwell led by Tessa Smith will start again on September 25th Mondays 7-9pm then continues on Oct 9 and 23, Nov 13 and 27 Dec 11 – we’ll do a performance at the end – the performance date is the autumn Jazz café at Inkwell on the afternoon of December 17th
Cost is £5 per session or £25 for the series.
