As part of our 2017 Cotman Projec
t where we are responding to the work by watercolour artist John Sell Cotman, we are excited to bring you a special embroidery and textiles workshop with talented Leeds based textile artist Lorna Johnstone. Here you will learn hand embroidery and appliqué techniques to create a stunning thread landscape painting. The workshop focuses on hand embroidery, however if any participant is keen to use a sewing machine as part of their process this could potentially be incorporated.
By the end of the session you will have designed a landscape thread painting, and learned to use a variety of stitches and fabric pieces to build layers of colour and texture: ending up with a personal piece of landscape artwork.
The finished work created in this workshop could be part of Inkwell’s Light Night intsallation in October 2017 or be included in the Cotman inspired exhibition at Inkwell as part of the Love Arts Festival.
All materials are provided.
All abilities welcome.
What to bring?
Participants are encouraged to bring photos of a landscape they would like to work from. They might like to combine elements from more than one image and should consider what features they are interested in.
